Permanent residence pathway
Express Entry is the online system IRCC uses to manage permanent residence applications for three federal skilled-worker programs. You create a profile, receive a score, and the highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply.

If you're eligible for at least one of the three federal programs below, you can create an Express Entry profile. IRCC gives your profile a score out of 1,200 under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), based on factors like age, education, language ability and work experience.
IRCC holds regular draws from the pool. Some invite the highest scores overall; others target a specific program or a priority category, such as healthcare or French-language ability. If you're invited, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence.
Being in the pool doesn't guarantee an invitation. A good strategy means building the strongest profile you honestly can, and knowing your other options, such as a provincial nomination.
You need to meet the requirements of at least one of these programs. These are the main criteria; your assessment checks the full list against your situation.

The exact list depends on your program, family and history. This is a typical starting point.
To create your profile
After you're invited
Language tests and credential assessments take time to book and receive. Start early.
Draws happen regularly. If your profile expires without an invitation, you can create a new one.
Submit a complete application for permanent residence within 60 days of your invitation.
IRCC aims to process most complete applications within six months. Actual times vary.
No, most candidates don't. Since March 2025, a job offer no longer adds points to your CRS score. It can still matter for eligibility, for example under the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
There's no fixed pass mark. The cut-off changes with every draw and depends on the type of draw. We'll show you where your score sits and what could realistically raise it.
For English: IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core. For French: TEF Canada or TCF Canada. Results must be less than two years old when you create your profile and when you apply.
A nomination through a province's Express Entry stream adds 600 points to your CRS score, which usually leads to an invitation in the next draw.
No. Nobody can, and you should be cautious of anyone who promises it. IRCC makes every decision. What we can promise is an honest assessment and a complete, carefully prepared application.
